Mia Klose - The Return of Chick Rock With Balls.

Finally there is some chick rock on the scene that isn't all about having a broken heart and executing revenge in a brutal yet whiny manner.  Mia Klose has brought the balls back to chick rock circa Joan Jett and The Runaways.  


Despite having Mia on twitter @Mia_Klose I didn't pay much attention to her music until she approached me at Download Festival and told me I had great boobs and proceeded to put promotional stickers on them. Now it is not everyday that you get a good looking blonde rock chick feel your boobs so its safe to say I remembered her face and her name.  


The first thing you will notice about Mia is her striking beauty she is the epitome of rocking blonde bombshell but more Cherie Currie than Avril Lavigne in both looks and attitude.  I haven't seen Mia live but I bet she packs swagger.  She looks like a girl that could control a crowd and leave them begging for more.

Her music has a great 80's metal vibe to it which I feel is something that has been lacking in the UK metal scene.  They say grunge killed glam in the early 90's well I think screamo killed the glam resurrection in the noughties but I am glad to see it making a comeback. 

"I am so lucky to have the chance to go where my passion takes me,’ she says. ‘I’m selfish enough to only indulge in what I find creatively stimulating. The artistic challenge has always been what motivates me when it comes to songwriting and performance, and that goes for the visual aspect too."

It was clear from the point I met Mia, for the brief moment I did, that she that she dedicated to her music.  She was going around Download Festival handing stickering people with information on her album release instead of getting drunk, sunburnt and rocking out to the likes of Sebastian Bach.  Dedication right there.

If you like the music of Motley Crue, Hanoi Rocks, Joan Jett or Lita Ford then you will not be disappointed. I look forward to seeing Mia progress in her career and wish her all the luck but I am sure she won't need it for talent and charm go a long way in the business.

Steel Panther - Live Review - Glasgow 28/03/12

Any excuse to back-comb my hair and wear an excessive amount of glitter and leopard print (also known as being extremely tacky) and I’m there but a Steel Panther gig gave me a valid reason to rock the tackiness up a notch.

On questioning my flatmate on whether my outfit was tacky enough the response was ‘just wait on until you do your makeup’ – oh burn.  True though.  It is all part of the fun of being a part-time glam rocker – just like the band that I was going to see.

Anyone who believes that Steel Panther are all they proclaim to be in their songs – womanising, drug taking, party animal - are extremely deluded – what Steel Panther do is perfect the act of satire. I have no doubt that the band have enjoyed all the above at some point in their lives but what they are famous for is their cheeky lyrics that poke fun at the glam metal scene itself. 

‘I get high, that ain’t no lie. But I can’t afford another friggin DUI’.

This was not my first time seeing the funny foursome but this was the first time seeing them headline their own show – at the Glasgow O2 Academy.  This band needs no special effects nothing flashy – the whole band has stage presence and charisma.  Even Zadinia the drummer.

The costumes and the crude jokes aside the band is extremely talented – in all that they do – from the stage persona they take on to the lyrics and music.  Every member of the band possesses great musical talent and excel musically.  I feel the humour of the band sometimes overshadows the bands sheer talent.

Andy Copping the book for Download Festival recently said – “Anyone who hasn't bought into STEEL PANTHER yet, I think it's time you went shopping...they are the future...love 'em”! The band is due to play Download Festival this summer.

The band played new tracks from Balls out the latest album and old classics like Community Property from Feel the Steel- that one had the whole crowd singing along.  They also played the highly anticipated hit Death to All But Metal which resulted in the crowd heavy rocking out.

As expected there were boobs on show – with the band inviting girls on to stage and then asking them to get...well their boobs out.  Everyone loves a nice set of boobs, don’t they?

After the gig I waited out the back of the venue to see the band and got my ticket signed – each member was so lovely.  Starr and Foxxx are rather beautiful up close as expected but Satchel and Zadinia are also both strikingly good looking – although I am not sure how good looking they would be without the wigs. You can tell they enjoy meeting their fans and appreciate the support.

If you want to have both a good time, see a talented band, see some boobs and have a laugh then Steel Panther are the band for you to go see. If you are easily shocked then it is not for you.

Falling Red - Hasta La Victoria Siempre - Review

Falling Red have been said to be ‘One of the best the UK has to offer’ by Kerrang magazine and from listening to their new EP Hasta La Victoria Siempre I agree that the band have great future potential to shake things up on the glam metal scene.

They fall into the category of classic rock/glam metal a genre that has rather loyal yet rather picky fans – a hard market to make it in indeed but Falling Red have a great following behind them and have support from other bands such as Peep Show, Sebastian Bach and Dirty Penny. 

They played the famous rock festival Hard Rock Hell last year and will be playing the Lancashire rock and bike show in Blackpool this June.  The band have been putting in a lot of hours this year touring the country to try and make a name from themselves but the hard work is paying off with them co-headlining with Peep-Show in Camden’s Underworld music venue and having previously supported artists like Sebastian Bach of Skid Row.

Although the EP only has four tracks this does not take anything away from the album.  The album has everything you expect from a band of this genre – heaps of attitude, catchy choruses and of course the soppy track to prove its not all about sex, drugs and rock n roll.

In my opinion the best track on the album is the cheeky ‘If you aint down with the rock (you can fuck right off)’.  It really explains what the band is all about and that is hard, fast rock n roll and dedication and if you don't like it well I guess you can fuck right off.   The band are not in to messing about when it comes to their music.  The passion is very evident and passion is the one thing that will keep this band afloat regardless of what happens with their music in the future. Not that I think they have a bleak future.  If anything I feel the exact opposite.

The Last Kiss Goodbye is the token ballad and it showcases singer and lead guitarist Rozeys strong vocals.  Unlike a lot of glam metal vocalists Rozey does not have the cliche screechy vocals that glam metal is usually accompanied by but a coarse yet melodic voice that no doubt makes a lot of girls swoon.

Come on Down is the first single to be released from the EP and has all the ‘woahs’ that you need in a classic rock tune.  Think Bon Jovi meets Motley Crue.  It also has video full of sexy dancers that if you want to check out can be found on the bands Myspace page.

Last but not least My Little Vice with intrinsic guitar solos shows a more subtle side of the band but still encompasses the overall attitude of the band which is work hard but rock a lot harder.

If you like bands in the classic rock genre or are more into a bit of sleaze like Crash Diet and Hardcore Superstar then Falling Red will fit nicely into your play list and that the fact that the EP is short means you have time to hit repeat and enjoy it all over again.
