ch...ch...ch...cherry bomb

For my 19th birthday my friend bought me "Cherry Bomb" - The ultimate guide to becoming a better flirt, a tougher chick, and a hotter girlfriend, and to living life like a rock star.  I was so intrigued by it that I read it in a day.

The book is wrote by Carrie Borzillo-Vrenna - an american entertainment and music journalist. As she is both a rock chick, a journalist and an ex-wife of a rockstar she is deffo someone I'm happy to take advice from. Any rock chick worth her black eyeliner needs this book.

As a journalism student Borzillo is someone I look up to, more so these day's as I am seriously considering going into music journalism - well more specifically rock music journalism.  I don't think I could stomache being a mainstream music journalist.

Borzillo has been a music journalist since she was 17 - she wrote about unknown bands for a free magazine in her hometown - from there on she has went on to be very successful in her field. She has worked for Billboard and Rolling Stone among other magazines.

Cherry Bomb covers everything that a rock chick needs to know to survive in the world - from the usually style and sex tips to the more rock chick specific tips like 'Absinthe', 'Apple Martinis and the Cherry Stem Trick' and 'Networking 101'.

Borzillo calls on her famous friends for specialist advice - stars like Dita Von Teese, Kat Von D, Tera Patrick, and Betsey Johnson.  These chapters provide expert advice from the fields the stars work in like striptease and tattoing.

The book is targetted at "The kind of girl who likes Gwen Stefani more than Jessica Simpson and likes music and is a little tougher and feistier". 

One of my favourite chapters in the book is - "Guest lists" - Borzillo gives advice on how to get yourself on the guest list.  Apparently having a blog can be helpful in this 'wink wink'.

'Goals' is also a good chapter which compares the 'yesteryear girl goals' with 'the rockin' girls goals' - e.g. 'save money to buy a house' versus 'save money to buy Christian Louboutin's entire fall collection'.

The book is marketed at the rock chick but even if you're not a rock chick you will still be able to enjoy the book.  Even if it is merely to use it as a coffee table book.
